Jammu and Kashmir police in its continued drive against drug menace arrested seven drug peddlers, including four residents of Punjab, in the Kashmir valley and recovered huge quantity of psychotropic substance in the Kashmir valley, a police spokesman said on Monday this evening.
He said police had established a check point at Jawahar Tunnel on Srinagar-Jammu road. A Punjab vehicle bearing registration number PB02BS – 8276 with four persons on board was intercepted. They have been identified as Kuldeep Singh son of Krishan Singh, Sandeep Kour wife of Manjeet Singh, Honey Singh son of Manjeet Singh, Paramjeet Singh son of Manjeet Singh all resident of Punjab. Police recovered 80 grams of Heroin from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody.
Case FIR No. 224/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in PS Qazigund and investigation has been initiated.
He said working on the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Srinagar, a police party during random patrolling and naka checking apprehended one person identified as Zubair Ahmad Khan, resident of Zaindar Mohalla, Habba Kadal in the old city at Harwan.
He said 1000 tablets of psychotropic drug Tramadol were recovered from his possession.
Based on this, FIR No 63/2020 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Harwan and investigation was initiated.
During the questioning of Khan he disclosed that the main source of illicit drug supply was one Mahroof Ahmad Sofi, also a resident of old city.
Spokesman said immediately, a police party headed by Station House Officer (SHO) Harwan, Inspector Mohammad Ayub Rather, under the supervision of SDPO Nehru Park Dr Sachit Sharma tracked and apprehended the main accused and recovered 5500 illegally stocked tablets of Tramadol from his possession.
Further investigation into the case is in process.
Earlier this month, East Zone Srinagar Police, acting tough against drug peddling, has registered 3 cases under the NDPS Act and arrested 4 drug peddlers, recovering substantial amounts of narcotic and psychotropic substances from their possession.
